Free Community Shred Day in Las Vegas

One of the easiest ways to prevent identity theft is to shred personal documents, and One Nevada wants to help you by hosting a free, community shred event at its Durango/95 Branch on Friday, May 3 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 7703 N El Capitan Way.

Assured Document Destruction will be on-site to safely and properly dispose of those unwanted documents, including recyclable paper, envelopes and newspapers. Up to three boxes filled with acceptable recyclable items are allowed per car. Electronics, ink cartridges and cardboard will not be accepted.

The shred event is free, but donations are greatly appreciated. All donations benefit Make-A-Wish Southern Nevada who will collect donations on site during the event.

"It might seem harmless to toss old records and expired documents in the trash, but an identity thief can use that information to piece together your identity and try to steal it," says Patrick Kearney, Certified Fraud Examiner and Assistant Vice President – Fraud Security. "If you're not sure about a document that needs to be shredded, be proactive and just shred it." In addition to free shredding services, Make-A-Wish Southern Nevada will have an information booth at the event.
