Are You Over- Or Under-Insured?

TAKE THE QUIZ

Whether it's your auto, home, or personal property, determining how much insurance you need can be a bit complicated. It all depends on your personal financial situation. What's right for you may not be right for your neighbor.

Being under-insured means you may not have enough coverage to get back on your feet financially. Being over-insured could mean you're wasting money on coverage that you could put towards your emergency savings or a long-term goal.

Take our Auto or Home Insurance quiz below to see if you should get a second opinion on your insurance coverage.

AUTO INSURANCE

If you answer "Yes" to any of the following statements you could be over- or under-insured.

  1. You paid off your car in the last year.
  2. Your car is over 6 model years old.
  3. You're insured for the minimum liability amounts your state requires.
  4. You owe far more than your car is worth.
  5. You live a lawsuit happy area.

If you answered "Yes" to:

#1 or #2:
You may be paying more than you need to for coverage. An insurance review could help you optimize your coverage and save some bucks.

#3

You're likely covered for the basics, but you may be under-insured for a catastrophic accident. It's likely a wise move to get an insurance review to find the "just right" coverage at the best price.

#4 or #5

It's highly likely that you're underinsured and your finances may be severely affected in the case of an accident. We strongly recommend you get a professional insurance review to protect yourself and your financial future.

HOME INSURANCE

If you answer "Yes" to any of the following statements you could be over- or under-insured.

  1. Your home is insured for "Market Value" versus "Replacement Cost".
  2. You can afford higher deductibles.
  3. You haven't had a policy review in the last 12 months.
  4. Your belongings are insured for "Cash Value" versus "Replacement Value".
  5. You remodeled or upgraded your home or property in the last year.
  6. You purchased expensive equipment or tools in the past year that you keep at home.

If you answered "Yes" to:

#1 or #2:
You may be over-paying for coverage. Market Value includes your home and the property it sits on whereas Replacement Cost is just the cost to rebuild your home. Insuring only for Replacement Costs can lower your annual premium. If you can afford higher deductibles, that could lower your annual premium too.

#3
You're likely covered for the basics, but it's likely a good idea to get a professional policy review to make sure your insurance will fully cover the cost to replace your home or belongings in case of a catastrophic incident.

#4, #5 or #6

Nevada's home prices have gone up exponentially in the past few years, and with rising inflation, your home and/or belongings are likely under-insured. We strongly recommend you get a professional insurance review to ensure you can replace what's important to you and protect your financial future.
